Weather Alerting Information

The Macon County Emergency Management Agency maintains an outdoor warning siren system that can be used to alert the public to an emergency. These sirens provide coverage for nearly all of the City of Decatur, and Macon County. Through public education activities, citizens are instructed to listen to local EAS radio (WSOY 1340) and television (WAND 17) stations for information on why the sirens are sounding and for instructions on what actions to take. Outdoor warning sirens in the Decatur \ Macon County area are equipped with two warning signals: a three-to-five minute steady "alert" tone, used for local tornado warnings and other vital emergencies, and a three-minute wavering or intermittent sound indicating an enemy attack. No all-clear signal is used in Decatur \ Macon County.

Weather Alert Radios on channel 162.400, can be used through the National Weather Service to broadcast precise local weather emergency information to the public. For more information on the NWS Alert Radio System, please visit there website.
